Madison Solar Consulting is Niels Wolter. Niels has actively promoted the mainstream use of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems since 1999.
From 1999 to 2011, Niels designed, operated, and managed the State of Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy, PV program, the Wisconsin Solar Use Network (WisconSUN), and US DOE’s Wisconsin Million Solar Roof program.
In 2011, Niels founded Madison Solar Consulting to provide solar PV consulting services to prospective system owners. He strives to work in his client’s best interest.

Niels is also an international sustainable energy consultant with Encon Services International LLC of Bethesda MD where he is the Director of Development and currently supports projects in the Central Asian Republics and Ukraine for USAID. He has worked throughout the Former Soviet Union and India on World Bank, EBRD, EIB, USAID, etc. projects.
Niels lives in a solar PV-powered home, which was net-energy-bill zero for ten years. He also has solar hot water heating and a wood stove. His home is on time of use electric rate. So he charges his electric car and operates his electric hot water heater during off-peak times. Niels is an avid photographer, vegetable gardener, bicyclist, cross-country skier, woodworker, and cook.
